by the Rev. Sarah Quinney, Assistant Rector, St. John's Episcopal Church, Roseville
I have been blessed to participate in three pilgrimages this year with youth and young adults from our diocese and around the world: last summer with the Lift Every Voice Freedom Ride in North Carolina; this summer with the Lift Every Voice Pilgrimage to South Africa; and this summer on the Pathways Youth Pilgrimage in our diocese.
These experiences have created space for tremendous transformation in my life. The youth and young adults I journeyed with tell me the same. They do not want this to end this year with these pilgrimages. They are determined, motivated and incredibly excited to continue these journeys with other youth from our diocese. The youth are leading the way and we must follow.
Some churches in our diocese have their own youth retreats (such as my own, St, John's, Roseville). That is great. However, we have an opportunity to build amazing community when we come together as a diocese and as a Church to experience these transformative pilgrimages together. The momentum is here. The spark has ignited into a flame, and I pray we do all that we can as leaders to encourage this movement of the Holy Spirit and help our youth on their mission to create this space for community to grow, hearts to open, minds to expand and to follow Jesus.
