The Capital City Preachers Group

by the Capital City Preachers Group

The Capital City Preachers Group is pleased to announce that our guest speaker for the January 25th meeting will be the Rev. Dr. Linda Lee Clader.

The Capital City Preachers Group is an informal group, sponsored by the Capital Deanery and open to everyone in the diocese. We invite anyone interested in learning more about developing sermons, and those who would like to expand their knowledge of preaching by learning and sharing to join us.

For each session, we invite different speakers, ministers and licensed preachers to talk about how they gather material for study and their tips on how they create and present sermons. An active discussion period is a major part of each meeting.

Our January guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Linda Lee Clader.

Dr. Clader taught homiletics at Church Divinity of the Pacific from 1991 to 2013, and served as dean of academic affairs for 10 years. She was a frequent instructor at the summer Preaching Excellence Programs for seminarians, offered by the Episcopal Preaching Foundation, and is the author of a book on imagination and preaching, Voicing the Vision: Imagination and Prophetic Preaching, published by Morehouse. She is an associate priest at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Benicia.

Dr. Clader is a Chicago-area native who studied classical languages at Carleton College and Harvard University, where she earned a Ph.D. in Classical Philology. After teaching classical languages and literature at Carleton for 15 years, she received her M.Div. from CDSP in 1988 and was ordained as a priest in 1989 in the Diocese of Minnesota. Besides offering workshops on preaching, Dr. Clader has also been known to teach New Testament Greek and swimming, to direct institutes on teaching and learning, and to act as a volunteer chaplain and occasional pianist at Solano State Prison and Napa State Hospital. She is currently learning what retirement is all about.

Our upcoming meeting will be:

When: Saturday January 25th; 9:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Where: St. Matthew's Episcopal Church
2300 Edison Ave.
Sacramento, California 95821
