In the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California, our safety program is called the Illness and Injury Prevention Program (IIPP). This safety program is mandated by the state of California. All businesses (churches and religious institutions are considered businesses by the state and federal government) MUST have a published safety program that they provide to every employee. A signed receipt of this policy must be kept in employee files. We recommend that you give a copy of this program to all volunteers regularly working in your location.
While this program is mandated by the state, we embrace it because its goal is to keep our employees (volunteers, and parishioners) safe. According to the Workplace Values of the Episcopal Church (General Convention Resolution A125), a safe workplace is one of the things that we promise to all who work for us.
