New Lay Ministry License Descriptions

New Lay Ministry License Descriptions

by Mary R. Davy, Lay Ministry Chairperson, The Episcopal Diocese of Northern California

The Committee on Lay Ministry has updated the lay ministry license descriptions for our diocese. These revised descriptions include information about discerning a call to these ministries and provide lists of training and study resources for those preparing themselves for these ministries. The resource lists should be especially helpful for those fulfilling the continuing education requirement for re-licensing.

The committee also worked to create a new license for our diocese, that of "Healing Minister." A Healing Minister is a lay person licensed to provide prayer for healing of body, mind and spirit. There are a number of persons in this diocese who have already been practicing this ministry. We request that they and those who feel called to this ministry review the guidelines for licensing.
