Helping at the Holidays

by St. James, Lincoln

St. James, Lincoln has been working hard to help those in need in their community. Through their generosity of time, talent and donations, this congregation was able to provide a basket with a bountiful Thanksgiving dinner to 25 families in need. Some families walked long distances just to be put on the list to receive a basket.

The Sunday before Thanksgiving everyone pitched in, helping to divide the donations amongst the 25 baskets, one for each family, and placing an invitation to the Christmas party in each basket. Those from a local Pentecostal Church, Restauracion Vino Nuevo, including their leader, Juan de Dios, joined those at St. James’ to help prepare and pass out these baskets. The members of Restauracion Vino Nuevo, were very helpful, providing translation when needed and helping people fill out gift request forms. These gift request forms provide an option for those who may need assistance with purchasing Christmas gifts. Once the forms are filled out and collected, the congregations works hard to fill each child's Christmas wish. As a direct result of the generosity and kindness of these communities, 25 families took home a wonderful Thanksgiving meal and many will now receive the assistance they need to help fulfill their children’s Christmas wishes.
