Epiphany Receives Jubilee Grant

Epiphany Receives Jubilee Grant

by Warren Dunning, Member, Epiphany Episcopal Church, Vacaville; Jubilee Ministry Officer, The Episcopal Diocese of Northern California

Each year The Episcopal Church receives applications and awards grants to Jubilee Centers. Jubilee Centers are churches that are recognized and celebrated for engaging in outreach ministry activities and advocacy. There are currently nine Jubilee Centers in The Episcopal Diocese of Northern California, and over 600 throughout The Episcopal Church.

This year there were 69 grant applications received, and 14 grants approved. Church of the Epiphany in Vacaville was honored to receive one of these grants. The grant was for funds to work in conjunction with community partners to conduct one or more literacy fairs to explain to parents (and those who care for infants, toddlers and preschool children) the need to talk, read and sing to children to build brain synapses, to bridge the "word gap" and enable children to enter school ready to learn. Epiphany will develop a model to be shared with others that can be used to “take the show on the road.” This project will give the Epiphany community yet another opportunity to reach out to the community at large, particularly to those who live in poverty.
