The “Divine Transportation” bus opened its door and out tumbled 40 neatly dressed boys ages 10-14 and chaperones eager to help them lay down garment bags in neat rows on the parish house floor of Holy Family, Rohnert Park. On a two-week tour throughout California, the 37-year-old Northwest Boychoir makes its home in Seattle, Washington as the premier children’s and youth choir in the Pacific Northwest.

Soon after arriving, the sweet sounds of “gloria” and Yiddish folk tunes echoed in the courtyard outside the church in closed rehearsal before a dinner, a quick change into choir robes and an eagerly-awaited procession into church. Medieval polyphony and later sacred music by Delibes, Casals and others filled the church to the brim with enchanting harmonies. Lively world and American folk music led up to the presentation of a Proclamation of Appreciation signed by the Mayor of Rohnert Park. Following the concert, choristers, parents, directors and grateful listeners gathered outside for a candlelit reception that lasted well into the night.

The concert successfully benefited the NOAH Food Pantry as well as the launch of Holy Family’s new Holistic Arts and Learning Organization (HALO). HALO seeks to enrich the Rohnert Park/Cotati/Penngrove community by sponsoring, designing and presenting quality education and arts programs, lectures and concerts at Holy Family Episcopal Church, and overseeing Holy Family’s vibrant choir programs.
