Central Deanery Begins Advent with a Festival of Lessons and Carols

by Central Deanery

On Sunday, December 1st, the 10 churches of the Central Deanery celebrated the beginning of the new church year with an Advent Festival of Lessons and Carols. Hosted by St. Andrew's in the Highlands, Antelope; the Rev. Peter Rodgers began the Festival bidding all to turn our hearts toward those in need of God's healing grace. Readers from around the deanery reminded those gathered of the ancient prophecies announcing the coming of the Lord, and the Renaissance Choir of Sacramento, led by Lee Lovallo, guided the congregation through a number of sacred Advent hymns as well as a beautiful rendition of the anthem "Dixit Maria." The offering collected was designated to support the continuing efforts to Rebuild Our Cathedral in Haiti. At a reception afterwards, deanery members had a chance to visit with one another and share plans for the holiday season.
