In the early hours of the morning, over 300 antique, collectible, fine art and food vendors will stream into the downtown area. Their booths will line First Street from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, on the corner of J Street, all the way down to the waterfront. “When the fair opens, it’s exciting to watch anxious shoppers quickly purchase that first antique treasure of the day and browse for others!” says Jeff Jarvis, members of the Peddler's Fair Committee. Steve Yvasik, a noted Bay Area journalist, will also be offering antique appraisals, one free appraisal per person, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

The Benicia Peddler’s Fair is sponsored by St. Paul’s Historic Trust, which was organized in 1970 for the purpose of raising money to preserve the historic California landmark church. 10% of the fair proceeds are donated back to the community of Benicia for various outreach programs. Commemorative glasses, etched with the church’s distinctive bell tower will be sold at the fair, and volunteers from St. Paul’s, Benicia will be giving tours of the church throughout the day.

Once again this year, St. Paul's, Benicia will be also be sponsoring "The Great American Bake Sale." All proceeds will go to Share Our Strength, a program which is attacking the problem of children's hunger in the United States. “The Bake Sale will be held at the beginning of the fair," shares Jarvis, "so visitors can enjoy gourmet baked goods as they stroll down First Street."

This year the Valero Refinery will once again provide a first-aid tent where fairgoers can rest or seek assistance. And a children’s “Kids Korner” booth will be offered at the fair from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., where children of all ages are invited to create art. This booth will be located on the 700 block of First Street. “Children must be accompanied by an adult who will need to sign a release for their child to participate,” says Jeff Jarvis.

This is an all-day family event that may begin with a visit to a food vendor or a stop at one of the cafes on First Street. Then it is off to browse and purchase antiques, collectibles, fine arts and special treasures. After making a stop at the Kid’s Korner, taking a peak at some of the local merchants’ stores and visiting the waterfront you can end of the day with dinner at one of the local restaurants. Come experience the fun!
